🤝 How to scale (and keep) your best contractors
Most founders skip this crucial step (and pay for it later)

Scaling contractors may be the hardest part of agency operations—and most founders get it wrong.
The reason? Poor onboarding.
Retention strategies are great, but they won’t matter if the contractor’s expectations aren’t set from day one.

To prevent churn, every role in your business needs a comprehensive expectations document.
Here’s what to cover beyond the basics (role, responsibilities, goals, KPIs):
Reporting Cadence: How often should they report? What’s expected in each report?
Compensation: What do they need to earn to stay 1 year, 2 years, and beyond?
Communication: Define response times, online hours, end-of-day reports, and availability for meetings.
Tech Stack: Specify which tools to use and when.
Satisfaction: Discuss what will keep them happy and what would make them leave.
Termination Criteria: Outline clear reasons for potential termination.
Part-Time/Full-Time Commitment: How many hours can they work weekly? Are they open to increasing hours or going full-time, and are there any barriers to doing so?
In your onboarding meeting, review this document in detail.
You’ll know right away if it’s a mutual fit and what’s required to keep them engaged and committed.
Set clear expectations, and you’ll save yourself from the headache of contractor churn.
