🏆 My 4-step “Amazon” formula to build an elite agency

Discover my proven formula to build a world-class agency.

I have a secret, 4-part formula to building a world-class team.

This formula, when implemented properly, can turn your business into a $100M, or even billion-dollar company.

I mastered this formula during my time at Amazon…

Which helped me run the highest-performing team in the world, multiple times…

Across multiple locations, teams, and departments.

Here’s the 4-part formula you need to build a world-class company.

Is Your Bookkeeper Putting Your Agency at Risk?

50% of US bookkeeping firms make mistakes that could put you in hot water with the IRS!

After several awful experiences with bookkeepers…

I created 8 Figure Finance to be the go-to source for stress-free, accurate bookkeeping, with:

  • Quick, reliable service every month

  • Clear monthly P&L reports delivered to your inbox

  • CPA-run for maximum accuracy

We’ve worked with 100+ clients…

And audited hundreds of millions of dollars in finances.

Don't gamble with your agency's financial health.

To ensure you’re not part of the 50% being screwed over…

Part 1: Purpose

People perform better when they have a purpose greater than themselves to pursue.

In some companies, the purpose is obvious:

  • SpaceX: Get us to mars

  • Tesla: Move the world to sustainable energy

Having a large goal that’s bigger than the team helps people find purpose in their work.

At Amazon, I inspired entry-level warehouse employees to give 110% by crafting a team mission to be the best in the world

Amazon is the best company in the world.

If we’re the best team in the company, we’re the best in the world.

This mission becomes a battle cry for people to rally around.

The best part? Every business can have this!

A cleaning business could have a mission to build better communities by creating cleaner, healthier homes.

An ads agency could focus on helping clients transform their businesses, improve their lives, or expand their reach.

(Pro tip: If you can’t find a purpose, hire a consultant to give you one.)

Part 2: Repetition

Every all-hands, every week, your team needs reminders of the bigger purpose.

Almost every day at Amazon, I would finish my morning huddle with a single affirmation, by sharing this phrase with my warehouse team:

“WHEN I SAY KICK, YOU SAY ASS.

KICK

ASS

KICK

ASS.”

Safe to say senior management wasn’t thrilled, but they never stopped me.

I would weave the purpose of being the most kick-ass team into our daily language via a single affirmation, and 1-2x a week bring up the bigger mission prior to the morning ritual.

Part 3: Gamification

Most people are naturally competitive and want to win.

Every day at Amazon, I would share where the team ranked in comparison to the world rankings.

I’d also share where each team member ranked in our team.

And when relevant, I’d share where team members ranked in the building and the region for their performance. (Amazon made the data easy to pull).

When applicable, make rankings available (and public) daily.

Your top 20% performers will crank into another gear due to their sheer competitive nature.

This will drive better results and retention for your company.

Mini team competitions.

As part of gamification, I ran competitions within my teams.

The top performer each week had their photo posted for all to see and got their name on an OSU Buckeye helmet we publicly displayed.

(My first team I cracked this with was based in Columbus, Ohio).

The first week we became #1 in the world was due to an outlandish promise I made:

“Hit #1 in the world by the end of November 2017 and you can shave my head.”

When I initially made this challenge, I thought there was no shot this would happen.

But to my surprise, it did.

What a huge accidental unlock. Competitions can raise the ceiling of achievement.

I began throwing all types of competitions and started having a lot of intentional fun running the team.

Part 4: WIIFM

Even with all of this, people still care about one thing above all:

WIIFM — What’s in it for me?

I invest in my people.

I truly care about them and try to understand their personal goals.

And with my teams, my genuine interest in their lives made them more loyal and committed to the cause I put forth.

Not everyone cares about a mission.

However, many people are motivated by earning their boss’s respect and approval.

I am genuinely interested in each of my employees.

I find out their personal and professional goals, and help them accomplish them.

  • I helped team members get out of debt

  • Write college essays

  • Get a mortgage for their home

  • Plan proposals

  • Build a business plan

By taking a vested interest in their lives, their hobbies, their families, and their passions…

My teams feel taken care of by me, and that I’ll help them move toward a better life.

Due to these efforts, my teams have more connection to me, more motivation, and more loyalty,

By understanding and implementing these 4 key factors:

  1. Purpose

  2. Repetition

  3. Gamification

  4. WIIFM

You’ll be well on your way to building a world-class team.

Now, you can definitely get there by yourself.

But you’ll go through a ton of headaches and low-points…

And it’ll take you WAY longer than you want it to.

Fortunately, there’s a much faster, smoother ride to get there…
